2022 F1 Race 4: Imola

Who takes the win in the Emilia-Romagna F1 2022 race?

2022 Imola F1 race winning start

Charles LeClerc had managed a front row start to the race after a strong performance in the Sprint Race but Verstappen looked ever competitive and was rushing through both corners and straights attempting to snatch a faster and faster lap time. The wet weather played a part however it would slowly clear but had cost Leclerc the strong start he would have hoped for. Home fans lost 50% of their team in the first corner with Sainz becoming beached in the gravel after an incident between him and Ricciardo's Mclaren. Alonso was soon to find himself also out of the race after a large portion of bodywork vacated his car forcing a retirement on lap 7. LeClerc managed to give the home fans something to cheer about with a move on Norris taking him to P3. Dry tyres began began being fitted around lap 20 and offered an enjoyable battle between LeClerc and Perez.

A late mistake from Charles LeClerc cost him the opportunity to fight Perez late in the race and dropped him a long way down the order. Norris would hold onto the final podium position behind the two Red Bulls while LeClerc fought to finish 6th place. Verstappen would take the chequered flag by a 16 second gap over his teammate. RedBull ending with a 1st and 2nd position and Mclaren gaining a podium after a difficult first few races. Special mention to Valtteri Bottas taking fifth in the Alfa Romeo only one place behind his old car, George Russel taking 4th.
